Throughout the day Wednesday, red kettles will be set up by the Salvation Army of Greater Augusta at the Kroger on Washington Road, representing college sports teams, like the Bulldogs, Tigers, Eagles, and Crimson Tide.
People are encouraged to donate to the kettle representing their favorite team.
This part of it is fun, but maybe what people don't realize is where their money is going, and this really helps people.
For example...$1,000 provides 606 meals in the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, or 56 nights of shelter, including daily hot meals and showers at the Center of Hope in Augusta.
So, if you're in the area, and don't even need groceries, but just want to help donate to a family in need, make sure you stop by the Kroger on Washington Road.
The annual kettle campaign is one of The Salvation Army's largest and most recognized fundraisers. This year, hundreds of volunteers and paid workers will be stationed all over the Augusta area collecting much needed donations that will fund Salvation Army programs throughout the year. Programs such as the free Residential Alcohol & Drug Rehabilitation, emergency shelter, Soup Line, and Job Skills Training will benefit from the money raised.
