Slum, Smoking, Skittlez Go Before Commission Tuesday

Augusta, GA -

It could be the end of the line for an Augusta night spot as Augusta Commissioners will vote on revoking the liquor license for Skittlez on the Gordon Highway Tuesday. A police check last found an underage person inside, while the club was still under probation. Skittlez was on probation in June after Richmond County Sheriff's Office deputies said a 16-year-old was inside the club dancing on stage with a male stripper.

Commissioners will also vote on a proposed ordinance that would ban smoking in all public places including bars. The ordinance would exempt private clubs from the smoking ban.

Also on the agenda is a scheduled vote on an Urban Development Plan downtown to issue bonds for the Augusta Municipal Building. The plan caught a lot of heat because it designated nearly 600 acres downtown a "slum area".

Commissioners are expected to remove the slum area designation and reduce the size of the redevelopment area so it doesn't include all of downtown.
