An Augusta man is behind bars tonight after leading North Augusta Public Safety officers on a high speed chase.
The North Augusta Public Safety officers picked up the chase shortly before 12:30 AM Saturday when the car entered South Carolina via the 13th Street Bridge.
That chase ensued after the driver, Keith James, 22, attempted to escape Richmond County authorities.
The driver crashed his car then attempted to run from the police; officers captured the man with the assistance of Aiken County's bloodhound team. The officers also found a gun in James' car.
North Augusta officers charged James with failure to stop for law enforcement; Richmond County will be pursuing additional charges.
James is currently being held at the Aiken County detention center.
