***UPDATED at 6:08am on Tuesday, November 6th***

Richmond County investigators may be one step closer in solving a double, fatal deadly hit and run.  Late Tuesday night, a person of interest, 25 year old Derrick Tompkins, turned himself in.

The hit and run occurred late Friday night along White Road, that's near Kissingbower Road.  The two victims were Jerry Mims and Tonya Lane.  Both were pronounced dead at the scene.  Investigators say a car hit both of them and then it simply vanished without a trace.  Police are still looking for the car involved and say that solving this case is not just for them, but for closure to the victim's families as well.

"That's the other reason we need the public to step forward," said Sgt. Michael McDaniel.  "Basically what we're asking is the general public to notify the sheriff's office if they see a tan or gold colored Pontiac G-6, that's the vehicle we're looking for right now."

A reward is being offered for anyone who has information leading to the arrest of the suspect or suspects.  Again, they're looking for a gold or tan Pontiac G - 6. If you know anything you're asked to call your local police.
