WJBF News Channel 6 has learned that a request for a retrial in former Columbia County Commissioner Scott Dean's child molestation case has been denied.
Dean was convicted of child molestation back in December of 2011.
In early October, Dean's adopted daughter, Silda Dean, recanted her original testimony. She told Judge James Blanchard and Scott Dean's attorney, Pete Theodocion she had lied about abuse.
In his decision to deny the retrial, Judge Blanchard wrote that by recanting, only Silda Dean's testimony is impeached and that's not enough to grant a new trial.
The judge also denied a motion to modify Dean's 20-year prison sentence because the time to file for it had passed.
Judge Blanchard's ruling can be viewed here.
