Louisville Woman Dies In Thursday Morning Collision

WJBF News Channel 6 has learned a 38-year-old Louisville woman died in a Thursday morning crash involving a tractor-trailer and the car she was driving.

Captain Robert Chalker, with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, tells us the accident happened around 9:48 a.m. Thursday morning.

The Jefferson County 911 Center received a call in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger car. The location of the accident was in the 9000 block of U.S. Highway 1 between Wrens and Louisville.

Upon arrival, Deputies, EMS, and Fire/Rescue personnel located the driver of the car, later identified as Heather Irwin Phillips, of Blackjack Road in Louisville, trapped inside her vehicle along with her 10 year-old son.

Rescue personnel extricated the victims and airlifted the child to Georgia Regents University in Augusta. His condition is unknown at this time. Ms. Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 51-year-old Clinton Washington, of Davisboro, Georgia was not injured.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) and the GSP SCRT Team. No charges have been filed at this time.
