Reaching out to senior citizens and low-income residents, U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) liquid waste contractor Savannah River Remediation (SRR) has donated money to help fund seasonal flu shots in Barnwell and Allendale counties.
SRR is providing the service through the Low Country Health Care System by putting $4,000 into flu shots for these citizens. The donation will provide at least 160 flu vaccines free to residents who qualify. The vaccines are being administered at 333 Revolutionary Trail in Fairfax in Allendale County and at 86 Wren Street in Barnwell.
Ken Rueter, SRR President and Project Manager, said SRR wants to provide help to those in need.
"Residents of these areas are good people and it is our pleasure to give them some assistance. Providing flu shots for those low income and elderly residents means one less thing for them to worry about during the upcoming winter months," Rueter said.
SRR has a history of giving back to the Central Savannah River Area communities, especially in the arena of health care. Last year, SRR gave a similar donation to Low Country Health Care System for flu shots.
Economic set-backs have tightened the budget for organizations who administer health care, and SRR's donation will help the area better respond to a serious health risk.
