Woman Says Citation Contains Another Woman's Personal Information

Columbia County, GA -

A Columbia County woman says that the Sheriff's Office made a big mistake. She was issued a citation for disorderly conduct, but instead of writing down her information, she says the deputy confused her with someone else.

Dorothea Miller says she had an argument with her boyfriend in front of her house on September 4th.

"The police were called and I was issued a citation for disorderly conduct," she says.

She says it wasn't until her court date on October 16th that she realized the information on the citation was wrong. Her middle name is Marie, but the citation lists her middle name as Michelle. And the social security number is also incorrect.

"I just think it's crazy that I've been given someone else's information," she says.

She says an employee at the court house told her the social security number belonged to another Columbia County woman with a similar name.

"It's ridiculous that they would even let this happen. I mean, I could take this information and probably go online, if I was that kind of person, and get a credit card or something in this person's name," she says.

So we did some digging, and located a Dorothy Miller who also lives in Columbia County. We showed her the social security number from the citation, and she confirmed that it is hers.

"I'm not happy with it. She could do a lot of damage if she really wanted to, but I am grateful that she has decided to be truthful and to let them know that is not her name and it's not her social security number," Dorothy Miller says.

Meanwhile, Dorothea says she has spoken with the Sheriff's Office about the mix-up, but she still doesn't know what to do with her citation.

"If the officer is not competent of taking the information from my drivers license in one hand and putting it on a ticket in his other hand, what makes him competent to write me a citation?" Dorothea says.

Columbia County Captain Steve Morris says the Sheriff's Office is looking into the matter.
