UNC researcher finds weather affects work productivity

RALEIGH, N.C. -

We all know that the weather can affect our mood, but now there is proof thanks to a University of North Carolina study.

Professor Bradley Staats decided to go out looking to see if bad weather is good for productivity.

He took the test he developed to a bank in Tokyo and found that the basic idea is that people are less distracted when there are bad weather days and more distracted when it is nice outside.

He said when it's nice out, people want to enjoy the weather and do something fun.

Employees of Camden Asbury Village Apartment Homes were mixed on the results. Some felt it was easier to concentrate on work when the weather was more dreary while others felt it made work more difficult.

WNCN reporter Jonathan Rodriguez agreed with the findings of the study, while Melanie Sanders felt sunnier weather made people more energetic, resulting in higher productivity at work.

Regardless, if you're focused on your work, the weather shouldn't be a factor.
