The Downtown Raleigh Alliance launched a gift card program Wednesday that allows shoppers to buy gift cards from $10 to $500 for stores in the downtown area.
The prepaid card that is accepted at participating businesses ranging from retail to dining and includes 86 downtown businesses.
The gift card is intended to promote downtown as a shopping destination in Raleigh. Downtown was once the heart of the commercial center before shopping centers in outlying areas began to pull retailers away from downtown.
"The gift card is another milestone in our overall strategy to reposition Downtown Raleigh as a shopping destination. Gift cards are super popular these days," David Diaz, DRA president and CEO, said in a statement. "Furthermore, we are excited to involve the many local independent storefront businesses that are growing in downtown."
The gift cards can be purchased online at www.shopdowntownraleigh.com or at the Downtown Raleigh Alliance office, 120 S. Wilmington St., Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
