STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) - A police officer shot and killed a man during a confrontation in Statesboro that appears to have been sparked by a code compliance issue.
The Statesboro Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1hnuAfD) that 61-year-old George Pryor was killed Monday at his home on Rackley Street in the south Georgia town.
Police spokesman Justin Samples said an officer was assisting with a code enforcement issue when the gunfire happened. Police released few other details.
Rose Roberts, who lives nearby, said that city officials had been asking for years that Pryor move an old van from his front yard. She said the van had a lot of sentimental value, and he wanted to get it fixed.
Police said no officers were hurt, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the circumstances of the shooting.
