Paine Wins Despite Rough Playing Conditions

Posted: Updated:

Augusta, GA (WJBF) -- They're still just a club team for now, but it was still a pretty special day Sunday for the new Paine Lions football team.  The Lions claimed their first win since the program ended in 1962 by defeating Gray 24-7. Paine played at Gray Military Academy in Lexington, S.C. on Oct. 27. Head Coach Greg Ruffin said, despite playing on a subpar field, he was happy with his team getting their first victory.

Paine has two more club games scheduled at home this season. They'll be at home again on Nov. 2 against Orangeburg Tech. The team's final home game of the season will be against Jireh Prep on Nov. 9. Both games will start at 2 p.m. at Laney Stadium. Tickets can be purchased from the Paine College Business Office on the first floor of Haygood-Holsey Hall or from
