Big plans are in the works for Augusta's bus system.
Officials with McDonald Transit, the private company running the city bus system, are proposing changes to make bus service better.
The three phase plan would increase how often buses run, create three new routes to south Augusta and Fort Gordon, and increase hours both in the morning and evening.
But, paying for the entire plan would add more than $2 million to the costs of running the bus system.
"It's done in phases, one, two, and three. Let's start on phase one, let's take small steps instead of jumping in on all three," says Auguta Commission Finance Committee Chairman Wayne Guilfoyle.
City leaders directed City Administrator Fred Russell to see if money from the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) would be available to pay for the bus service expansion.
