One day only. That's how much, or how little, time people can vote to help the Golden Harvest Food Bank. They're trying to win a van through Toyota's "100 Cars For Good" contest.
Golden Harvest Food Bank is one of 250 finalists, but they have only today (Monday) for a chance to win, by voting. As a non-profit organization, they rely heavily on donations, but this is a chance for folks to help out without having to donate anything more than the click of a button. But what a new van can do for this food bank is something staff members say you can't put a price tag on.
"A lot of times, our staff is having to go in teams, to meet with our agencies," said Travis McNeal, Executive Director for Golden Harvest Food Bank. "We do monitoring for our agencies. We have to go there and check on them to see if it's a place suitable to have a pantry. So with 300 agencies throughout our 30 counties, our vehicles have to be on the road a lot."
"There are people today that they're comfortable in their job and they're paying their house mortgage and paying their car payment and they're able to buy their food," said McNeal. "Tomorrow they may lose their job and we're all just one paycheck, or one month's paycheck away from really needing that food pantry."
Voting begins this morning at 10 am and ends tonight at 11:59 pm. To vote - all you have to do is go to carsforgood.com.
