Postseason success is nothing new at Cross Creek. The softball team has advanced to the GHSA state playoffs in 11 of the past 12 years, including two trips to the Elite Eight.
But after losing 7 seniors from their 2012 teams - 5 of whom are playing in college right now, you might have expected a bit of a step back.
But after a come from behind road win against Worth County last week, the third seeded Lady Backs have already advanced further in the postseason than last year's team did.
"Replacing 7 starting positions and only having two people on the field that actually played last year means it is a rebuilding year," head coach Lisa White said. "And I don't think anybody expected us to be where we are today."
Ali Hildebrandt, on of two seniors on the team, said the breakout season started in the offseason.
"As a senior coming in losing all your friends and teammates, yeah you have doubts," Hildebrandt said. "You start to think maybe you're not that good. But as we started playing throughout the summer and throughout the season, I saw a big change."
