Public meeting in Columbus on proposed power rate hike

Posted: Updated:

On Monday, October 21st, Georgia Watch and the Sierra Club are holding a public meeting to discuss Georgia Power's new power rate hike and solar fee.

According to a news release,"Georgia Power requested a $478 million hike along with a new fee on property owners installing solar panels on their homes and businesses, effective January 1, 2014. The Georgia Public Service Commission will vote on the proposed rate hike in December, and at least one member of the Commission is expected to attend each public meeting."

If approved, Georgia Power's rate hike request would add nearly $8 a month to the average residential bill.

The meeting will be held at the Coca-Cola Space and Science Center on 701 Front Avenue in Columbus from 6:30-8pm.
