Man tries to rob cashier at gunpoint in Opelika

Police are searching for a suspect in connection to an attempted robbery at the Murf Mart.

It happened Wednesday night at 1001 Frederick Avenue at around 8:50pm central time.

According to a news release, "Complainant reported she was counting down the cash register when a black male came into the business wearing a black hoodie and a black mask covering his face. The cashier said the suspect pointed a gun at her.

According to the complainant she got scared, shut the cash drawer, and ran to the back of the store to hide. She stated the suspect then began trying to open the cash register but when he could not open it he fled the business on foot."

Police are looking for a man about 6'0" and 150 pounds. He was wearing light colored blue jeans and black tennis shoes.

The case is under investigation.
