Evaluations Not Designed To Bring Down Augusta's City Administrator

Posted: Updated:

Putting Augusta department directors to the test...city leaders held a work session Wednesday to discuss job evaluations for City Administrator Fred Russell and other department heads.

Russell has been under fire recently after not informing Augusta Commissioners about a plan to designate downtown a "slum area".

But Commissioner Bill Lockett, who scheduled the work session, says it's not a ploy to bring down Russell.

"It doesn't have anything directly to do with the Administrator. Other than the fact were going to do an evaluation piece for the Administrator, but not only the Administrator but other department directors. This was something that was on the agenda way before the rumors came up about the Administrator's demise," said Lockett.

The Augusta Human Resources Department addressed several issues for Commissioners, including making changes to the city's Policy and Procedure Manual.
