The Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner has ruled a deadly Waynesboro fire to be accidental.

The victim is identified as Andrew Lenair Sursson, 33.

Two other adults and a 6-year-old child were also in the home during the blaze, but escaped unharmed.

Investigators say that unattended cooking may have started the fire.

Fire Investigators believe that unattended cooking by Sursson may have started the blaze.

"My investigator found nothing suspicious about the origin of this tragic fire," Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said.

This is the 95th reported fire fatal in Georgia for 2013. Fourteen of those deaths are a direct result of unattended cooking.


A man is dead following an overnight fire in Waynesboro, Georgia.

The Waynesboro Fire Department responded to fire on Savannah Avenue shortly after 4:30 Sunday morning.  There, the firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the kitchen and the living room.

After the fire was out, they found a deceased man in the bedroom.

The origin and the cause of the fire are still unknown; an autopsy of the victim is pending.
