A Hephzibah man has been charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Assault and 1 count of Arson in the First Degree after authorities say he set his house on fire.
Authorities say 63-year-old John Eugene Williams, who was arrested on Monday, poured gasoline on his estranged wife and throughout her Sanderling Drive home early Sunday morning. They say he told the woman and her daughter he was going to burn the house down. Both were able to escape out a window.
Authorities say 4 deputies were sent inside the home to confront Williams and that's when he apparently ignited the gas setting the house on fire. The deputies were able to escape.
No one was badly injured.
