Augusta city leaders want to get you driving in circles.
A proposed roundabout for the intersection of Milledgeville Road will be the topic of a public information meeting next Tuesday. The city is considering five roundabouts to be paid for with sales tax money. Many drivers may not be familiar with roundabouts, but traffic engineers say they're a good way to go.
"They can also serve a dual purpose. They control traffic and they are definitely safer for the severity of accidents, they can also serve as gateways to community center pieces. You can landscape the center of them, they've been shown to work everywhere," says Augusta Traffic Engineer Steve Cassell.
The roundabout open house is Tuesday, October 15th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bayvale Elementary School on Milledgeville Road.
Cassell says the city is also looking at a roundabout for the Wheeler Road at Aumond Road intersection in Augusta and three other locations.
