Rep. Kingston works to re-open CDC

WASHINGTON, D.C. -

A move is underfoot to re-open the Centers for Disease Control and allow its nearly 13,000 employees to go back to work.

Congressman Jack Kingston of Georgia is leading the charge. His legislation would fund the CDC at its current budget level through December 15, allowing the agency to continue its work while congress and the Obama Administration work out differences on more controversial budget items.

"Ensuring public health and safety is an essential service," said Kingston.  "We should be able to come together to advance non-controversial and essential functions of government while we continue working toward a larger agreement."

Kingston serves as Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies that among other things oversees funding for the CDC.
