The weather was terrific Thursday for the 2013 Elanco Global Day of Service at the Golden Harvest Food Bank. Over 100 volunteers from the Elanco Augusta Technical Center, a division of Eli Lilly and Company, are volunteering Thursday in Augusta.
"This is a garden that we have established here with the Golden Harvest Food Bank and they use the food to feed the hungry," says Ryan Robinson, of Elanco Augusta.
"It means so much to know that we are partnered with people that are doing the same thing we are doing," says Travis McNeal, of Golden Harvest Food Bank.
The garden supplies tomatoes, eggplant, peppers and other vegetables that will feed the hungry right here in the CSRA...and the number of hungry people in the CSRA is growing.
"We are bringing local solutions to local issues and hunger is a local issue and I'm so appreciative that even though they are a global empire. They still remember the working poor and where they came from. It's about neighborhoods taking care of neighborhoods," says Rebecca Hersey, of Golden Harvest Food Bank.
Volunteers from Elanco are also volunteering at Sand Hills Community Center, Safe Kids of Greater Augusta, painting at Heritage Academy, and cleaning up at Phinizy Swamp and the Augusta riverfront.
