Hump Day Geico Commercial Has Everyone Talking

Posted: Updated:

It is Wednesday, which means it's Hump Day!  But some would say a new ad makes every day Hump Day. ABC's Paula Faris has more on the Geico Camel.

This camel-wanders around an office

"C'mon, I know you can hear me. Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike," says the Camel.

Asking a simple question.

"Uuh oh, guess what day it is? Guess what-day-it-is. Ahhhh? Anybody?" asks the Camel.

Pestering--until finally getting the answer he wants.

"Leslie, guess what day it is? It's hump day (woo-hoo!)" exclaims the Camel.

Call it hump day "hysteria".

Geico's quirky camel commercial has been viewed nearly 16-million times on YouTube.

"Hump Day-yeahhhh!" said the Camel.

And, the parodies and re-posts.

"Guess what day it is!"

Are nearing 50,000.

"C'mon you can hear me!" said the Camel.

Here, a family re-enacts the entire commercial.  At Vernon Center Middle School in Vernon, Connecticut the Hump Day hype became such a distraction.

"They do it every day," said student, Jacob Ruggerio.

They had to ask some of the kids to tone it down.

"Everybody's walking around in the hallways and saying it's hump day in that weird voice," said student, Brooke Lewis.

The school superintendent telling ABC:  "This is something that happens in every middle school in the country every day.

As for Geico-they say their creative team focused on what would make anyone happy and as soon as the camel idea was born, they knew they were on to something.

But, for a company that's keen on the animal kingdom the mammal--known as camel-might be the biggest hit of them all.

"Guess what day it is?! Hump Day, yeah!" exclaimed the Camel.
