Some Augusta Commissioners want to turn up the heat on City Administrator Fred Russell.
As we first reported last week, Commissioners are considering requiring the administrator and other department directors to undergo regular evaluations.
Some city leaders have been critical of Russell for not informing them of the plans to designate downtown a "slum area".
Now, Commissioner Marion Williams is suggesting taking another look at Russell's contract letter to look at possible changes.
"That would be the first step I would look at...if he wants to continue his employment here he would be in agreement of what we put together. We've been fair with him, we've been more than fair," said Commissioner Williams. "Cut his salary? cut his severance?" we asked. "I'm not saying cut his salary, I'm not saying cut his car allowance, I'm not saying cutting anything. I'm saying we need to look at that," answered Williams.
A work session will be held next week on the issue.
Russell declined to comment on the suggestion to revisit his contract letter.
