Drawing for hotel across from NCSU unveiled

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

A new hotel across from the N.C. State Bell Tower will be an Aloft brand, and will include a brick look designed to mesh with the campus across from it.

The hotel, part of the Starwood Hotels and Resorts chain, is scheduled to open in mid-2015. The hotel will replace an iconic strip right across from NCSU that now includes Sadlack's Heroes and Schoolkids Records, which opened in 1973.

Stephen Judge, owner of Schoolkids, said he expects to sign a new lease in about a week.

The owner of Sadlack's has purchased the Berkeley Café in downtown Raleigh.

And the owner of Buddha's Belly could not be reached for comment.
