MURRELLS INLET, SC -

The Coast Guard rescued two mariners who ran aground Tuesday night in the vicinity of Murrells Inlet, S.C.

The Coast Guard was notified that a man and a woman were on a skiff that had run aground on an oyster bed Tuesday night just before 11 p.m.  The Coast Guard launched a boat crew aboard a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft from Station Georgetown to respond.

The boat crew arrived on scene at approximately 1 a.m., Wednesday and began to search for the two individuals. Although crewmembers could hear the two calling for help, they could not find them. An additional boat crew from Murrells Inlet Fire Rescue arrived on scene, but shallow water restricted both boats' search capabilities.
