Crabtree Valley Mall Trick-or-Treat: Begins Thursday Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. Participating stores will have a pumpkin in their window. The event is for kids 10 and under and while supplies last.

Cary Town Center Safe-N-Sane Halloween Celebration: Dress in a cool or scary costume and trick-or-treat around the mall from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. Children can also enjoy story-telling, sing-a-longs and a magic show.

N.C. Museum of History's Halloween safe night at the museum: Children can search out candies and treats as they walk along the trick-or-treat trail and the Story of North Carolina. The event is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. Children must be 12 and under and accompanied by an adult.

Fort Bragg Halloween Carnival: This even is scheduled for Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tolson Youth Activities Center. The carnival is free, open to everyone, and includes a Halloween costume contest, games, a candy giveaway and much more. The Keystone Club will host a haunted house for $2 a person.

Booth Amphitheatre's Reel-ly Scary Cary: Scary movie classes will be played on the big screen. Children can enjoy the Creepy Corridor while older children and adults can enjoy the new Trail of Terror. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and kids 12 and under are free. Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics (beer and wine also permitted)

Pumpkin Fest at the Fresh Market: Customers are invited to celebrate the flavors of fall at the "Pumpkin Fest" special sampling event at all of The Fresh Market's 144 stores nationwide. This year, Pumpkin Fest will be accompanied by in-store trick-or-treating on Oct. 26 and a coloring contest for children Oct. 2 to Oct. 26. Customers can stop by The Fresh Market stores to take advantage of special offers and enjoy samples of some of the specialty grocer's favorite autumn and pumpkin inspired items.

Fall Festival and Living History at Bentonville Battlefield: The event is Oct. 19 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This year visitors are encouraged to participate in a quilt contest to showcase their talents. Quilts will be judged the day of the festival. Wagon rides will cost $1 each (children 5 & under are free); all other activities are free.

Scareolina Skies 2013 at Morehead Planetarium: Chapel Hill's newest Halloween tradition puts a unique spin on "Carolina Skies" planetarium show. Explore the dark legends behind the constellations. There are two showings for adults, Saturday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. There are two kid-friendly versions at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Regular ticket prices apply.
