DETROIT -

Carolina Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos Jr. has lost his $600,000 per year consulting job with Compuware less than two weeks after he criticized the Detroit-based software development company for focusing more on shareholders than on the community.

The announcement that the position for the company's retired co-founder and former chief executive ends Tuesday was made last week in corporate filings.

The job was approved by the Compuware board last October. Karmanos stepped down March 31 as board chair.

The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press report that Karmanos had told reporters the company's current leadership is indifferent to the Detroit area.

Earlier this year, Danialle Karmanos criticized Compuware for canceling events honoring her husband's legacy. Compuware said it didn't feel the events were an appropriate use of company funds.
