Hernando residents under flood watch

Posted: Updated:
HERNANDO COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Hernando County Emergency Management officials issued a flood watch through Wednesday evening Tuesday due to heavy rains throughout the region.

Jackie Swansey is nervous about the rising water outside of her Hernando County home.

Swansey says, "I come to the door every chance I get just to see where is it coming."

Swansey lives in the Camper's Holiday mobile home park near Brooksville.

The community flooded in September and water entered into several homes at that time.

"All you can do is live with it and we got as much water out as we could and then just waited for it to drain and drain," says Swansey.

Across the street, her neighbor Fred Potter has drawn a line, marking the water level in the street.

Potter said, "This morning it was at the end of this driveway and now it's here and it's not raining but it's coming up."

Potter adds that even if the water comes into his home he doesn't plan to leave because he says he has no where to go.

"I can move things around if I have to," he adds.

He has already placed his lawn mower on a picnic table to keep it above the rising water.

Hernando County officials say they are also monitoring the water levels.

The county is not issuing sandbags to residents and schools throughout the county remain open, however emergency management officials say they are on a flood watch through Wednesday evening.
