iPhone hackers break fingerprint sensor code

Posted: Updated:
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -

Just 48 hours after Apple's latest iPhones went on sale, hackers found a way around the touch ID fingerprint sensor.

The sensor is the latest security measure Apple built into its new iPhone 5S as an alternative to a number pin code.

The touch ID fingerprint sensor was fooled by a German-based group called the Chaos Computer Club and confirmed independently.

They unlocked the iPhone 5S with a fingerprint that had been transposed onto a strip of what appears to be latex. They did not detail how the fingerprint was transposed onto the strip.
Youtube videos show others replicating the hack.

Apple has not responded to the reports. Security experts say it is still better to use the security technology than not, even if it's not completely fool-proof.
