Augusta landfill officials say most of Augusta is satisfied with one day a week trash pickup.
Back in June, there was a major change to the trash program with service going from twice a week to one day a week.
Augusta Landfill officials say, early on, the big problem was missed calls, and while there were a lot of complaints about one day a week service. Most customers did not order an extra can to make up for the lost day of pickup.
"We've had very few people actually request a second can, recycling perks. We've delivered over 3,000 new cans in the first sixty days. I think we're in the hundreds on second cans," says Landfill Director Mark Johnson.
Though there were many complaints about the one day a week service, the vast majority of customers got recycling bins instead of an extra trash can.
"Right, the program worked by it's design," says Johnson.
Johnson has prepared a review of the first 60 days of trash service. He says one of the lessons learned is the city did not do a good enough job of marketing the new service before it started.
