2 bicyclists die after Orange Co. hit and run

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

Accidents along busy 15-501 in Orange County claimed the lives of 3 people in separate incidents over the past several days.

This past Wednesday, a woman was struck and killed when she walked into oncoming traffic near University Mall.

And late Thursday night, two bike riders were struck, while heading towards Pittsboro, just outside of Chapel Hill.

40-year-old Alexandra Nicole Simou died at the hospital a few days after the accident. Her riding companion, 41-year-old Ivin Levander Scurlock died at the scene. Both were from the Carrboro/Chapel Hill area, and homeless, according to a local church that cared for them.

A growing memorial, with flowers and a bike, were placed at the scene where the two were hit.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is still looking for the car that hit the riders. Troopers think the car has front-end and windshield damage.
