A positive update for a story WJBF has been following for months: Friends and family of Wesley Spires are saying a big thank you Saturday night.
Spires was the victim of a brutal beating on the Augusta Riverwalk back in May. He did not have health insurance to cover a long hospital stay, so Saturday morning family and friends organized a 5K walk at Riverview Park to raise money for those medical bills.
The group raised about $2,000.
If you couldn't make it out to the 5k, but you want to help, you still can; there is a medical donation fund in Spires' name at Georgia Bank and Trust in Augusta or North Augusta.
