Investigators: Person Of Interest In Weekend Murder Acted In Self-Defense

Richmond County Sheriff's Office investigators say the person of interest in a weekend murder was just acting in self-defense.

Investigators say Anthony Hampton made contact with them about the deadly shooting on Hicks Street early Saturday morning. They say no criminal charges will be filed against Hampton.

The investigative hold on his mother, who was detained for questioning, was also lifted.

Richmond County investigators say they are looking for 17-year old Anthony Hampton as a person of interest in the shooting death of Willie Casey, Jr.

Hampton's mother, Michelle Hampton, is being held for questioning.

Investigators are working an overnight homicide in Richmond County.

Richmond County deputies say the call came in shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

Deputies say they responded to the Hicks Street Apartment in reference to someone beating on an apartment door. That's when deputies discovered that Willie H. Casey, Jr. had been shot.

The Richmond County deputy coroner says Casey was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after. He was shot at least one time in his left side.

An autopsy is scheduled at the GBI Atlanta.
