Online bullies create 'hateful' Facebook page

Posted: Updated:

A Polk County family says someone has taken bullying to a new and awful level.

Only 10 days have passed since 12-year-old Rebecca Sedwick killed herself after vicious online bullying. Now, someone is targeting one of her friends.

"Somebody made a Facebook page called 'Brianna's next' and it was saying I need to kill myself," said Brianna Earls, a 12-year-old and former student at Crystal Lake Middle School.

On Friday, Brianna and her mother Darlene spent about two hours with Polk County Detectives because of it.

"Whoever created this page is obviously very ill," said Darlene Earls. "The birth date that was used on the Facebook page was the day that they found Rebecca's body: September 10."

Brianna had several classes and was friends with Rebecca Ann Sedwick, another 12-year-old victim of bullies, who climbed a tower at an abandoned cement plant and jumped on that day about two weeks ago.

"It terrifies me to know the last few hours of Rebecca's life - that this is what she dealt with," Darlene said. "I know that the bullying with Rebecca was 10 times worse and I couldn't even imagine as an adult knowing what she went through."

It's struck a nerve with Rebecca's father, who's reaching out to this family.

"He called me as a concerned parent because his daughter lost her life because of this, and these words, these kids are saying have affected so many people," Darlene said.

As of right now, Brianna has an idea of who could have done this, but it's not clear where those words are coming from.

"I think that they need help. They need some kind of counseling or something."
