Portion Of Mike Padgett Highway Closed After Train Derailment To Re-Open Friday Evening

WJBF News Channel 6 has learned the portion of Mike Padgett Highway near McCombs Road in south Augusta will re-open Friday evening.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office tells us the Georgia Department of Transportation confirms that that portion of the roadway that was closed after a Tuesday train derailment is scheduled to re-open by 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Mike Padgett Highway near McCombs Road in south Augusta should be back open Friday after a train derailment earlier this week.

Authorities say the driver of an 18-wheeler lost control and struck the trainm causing one of the derailed cars to hit a pick-up truck Tuesday.

The rail line is back open, but work will continue through the weekend to replace panels that were damaged.
