COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Steve Spurrier likes what he's seen of No. 12 South Carolina's offense and hopes to get even more production going forward.
The Gamecocks coach has enjoyed the quick-strike capabilities that have helped South Carolina (2-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) average 30 points and 480 yards a game. Spurrier believes the Gamecocks can do even better.
Spurrier says quarterback Connor Shaw has improved in trusting his arm instead of scrambling out of the pocket. Shaw twice struck for touchdowns in last week's 35-25 win over Vanderbilt when he hung in behind the line and found receivers in tight spots.
Still, Spurrier says Shaw can take a few more shots downfield.
The coach says the foundation for the improved production is South Carolina's offensive line.
The Gamecocks have a bye this week.
