Smartphone Photo Contest And Exhibition To Document Historic Miller Theater

The Morris Museum of Art and Symphony Orchestra Augusta (SOA) are partnering with the Miller Theater to offer a smartphone photo contest which documents the Historic Miller Theater.

The Miller, located at 708 Broad Street in downtown Augusta, will be open to the public for tours and photographs during the 2013 Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival on Saturday, September 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on Sunday, September 22th, from noon to 4:00 p.m.

"This is a great partnership, and we anticipate its producing wonderful images, said Mieko Di Sano, executive director of Symphony Orchestra Augusta.

"With our friends at the Morris Museum of Art, we can offer something really wonderful to the Augusta community."

According to the Morris Museum's assistant curator of education, Matt Porter, "This new initiative is consistent with our efforts at the museum to bring art to the community and to involve as many people in the creation of art as we can."

To submit a smartphone photograph for the contest, email entry (one entry per person) to by September 24th. All submitted photographs will be on display in the exhibition Snapshots of Time: Images of the Historic Miller Theater, in the first-floor education Gallery at the Morris Museum of Art, October 1st throught October 20th. During the exhibition opening reception on October 10th, 5:30–7:00 p.m., the public is invited to view the photo entries and vote for their favorites images. The winning photos will be announced on the Miller Theater's Facebook page and Twitter.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Only photos of, or directly related to, the Miller Theater are eligible.
  • Pictures must be submitted to the email address: Maximum file size is 5 MB. Minimum file size is 300 ppi and 640 x 480 pixels.
  • The Morris Museum of Art has the right to approve or reject any submission at any time without notice. Images that are threatening, defamatory, abusive, obscene, pornographic, profane, or promote bigotry against any individual or group will be rejected.

By submitting an image, you are agreeing to the following terms:

  • I hereby grant the Morris Museum of Art a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and copy any and all photos submitted;
  • I hereby certify that none of the photos submitted by me will infringe on any right of privacy, publicity, copyright or other intellectual property rights whatsoever of any person;
  • I hereby certify that I have the absolute right, power, and authority to enter into this agreement and to submit photos for display;
  • I hereby certify that I have obtained any and all consents, permissions, licenses and other approvals of third parties required in connection with this submittal, including but not limited to any and all consents and releases relating to models or property in suchphotos;
  • I am aware that digital images can be easily transferred or manipulated, and I hereby release the Morris Museum of Art from any liability related to digital theft, transfer or manipulation of my image;
  • I agree to hold the Morris Museum of Art harmless from and against any and all liabilities, costs, and expenses arising out of or in connection with any breach by me of, or other failure by me to comply in all respects with, the terms and conditions of this agreement, any violation by me or any of the photos submitted by me of any applicable laws, or any act or mission of me.
  • Shows listed on resumes may be titled only as "Education Gallery Exhibition" at the Morris Museum of Art
