Augusta city leaders also aren't ready to give more money to the Laney Walker development project.
Commissioners sending a proposal to loan the program two and a half million dollars to continue the revitalization effort back to committee.
One concern is that in the last three years the project has spent more than two million dollars on consultants and marketing, instead of spending the money on new homes.
"At the end of the day eight million dollars spent only 29 and a half million left, 18 19 20 houses, that's not equating out to the type of growth that we need to have," says Commissioner Alvin Mason.
Augusta housing Director Chester Wheeler did not comment on the vote to go back to committee, but in a letter to commissioners said it would be more costly to do the consulting and marketing in house with city employees than hiring outside firms.
