Augusta commissioners are scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether to go back in time.
A motion would switch meeting times from 5:00 p.m. back to 2:00 p.m.
Commissioner Grady Smith says starting meetings at 5:00 puts too many city staffers on overtime, which costs the city money.
"Let's do what's right for this county. If somebody says I have an ulterior motive for changing it back...no, let's do business during business hours so our costs of business operation doesn't just skyrocket," Smith says.
Since Consolidation, Commission meetings started at 2:00 p.m. until 2010, when city leaders voted to move the meetings to 5:00 p.m.
Commissioners said the later time would make it easier for the public to attend, and Smith says the public can still attend the meetings.
