Augusta Commission To Vote On Going Back In Time

Augusta, GA -

Augusta commissioners are scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether to go back in time.

A motion would switch meeting times from 5:00 p.m. back to 2:00 p.m.

Commissioner Grady Smith says starting meetings at 5:00 puts too many city staffers on overtime, which costs the city money.

"Let's do what's right for this county. If somebody says I have an ulterior motive for changing it, let's do business during business hours so our costs of business operation doesn't just skyrocket," Smith says.

Since Consolidation, Commission meetings started at 2:00 p.m. until 2010, when city leaders voted to move the meetings to 5:00 p.m.

Commissioners said the later time would make it easier for the public to attend, and Smith says the public can still attend the meetings.
