CONWAY, SC (WBTW) - Two people police say were involved in a shooting incident with a South Carolina Highway Patrolman Saturday in Horry County were officially charged.
According to a press release, Richard Lee Cochran IV, 20, and Marie Keiser, 33, both of Conway, were in vehicle pursuit around 6 p.m. on SC 22 that included an exchange of gunfire with the trooper.
Officers were called to the area of SC 319 and Enoch Road in the Aynor section of Horry County in reference to assisting the South Carolina Highway Patrol in a vehicle Pursuit.
The pursuit continued down SC 319 towards Conway until the Cochran took the ramp onto SC 22, where he hit a guardrail, police said.
Cochran continued driving for a short time while he began firing a weapon out his window, striking the trooper's car, the release stated.
Cochran then left the road in to a grassy area, where he jumped out of the vehicle and continued shooting at law enforcement while running on foot, according to the release. Law enforcement did return fire. There were no injuries during the incident.
Keiser also exited the vehicle in an attempt to flee, but was taken into custody.
Around 9:30 p.m., Cochran was found in a wooded area and taken into custody.
Cochran is charged with three counts of attempted murder, possession of a deadly weapon during a violent crime, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, unlawful carrying of a pistol, and failure to stop for a blue light.
Keiser is charged with obstructing justice.
