On Saturday, authorities shut down a portion of Hwy 22 near Hwy 319 after two people fired shots at a state trooper.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Lt/Cpl. Sonny Collins says just after 6 p.m. Saturday, a trooper was attempting to pull over a car for a traffic violation when that car lead the trooper on a chase after refusing to stop.
Collins says while chasing, the driver fired shots at the trooper, then, the chase ended but a driver and a passenger got out of the car and continued shooting at the highway patrolman.
The trooper exchanged gunfire with the two people.
No one was injured in the shooting.
The driver was immediately taken into custody at the scene, but the car's passenger fled into the woods near the intersection of Highway 22 and 319 in Horry County.
After a search, the passenger was also taken by police.
A portion of Highway 22 was shut down during the incident.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Horry County Police Department investigate the incident. As of this post, no official charges, nor the names of the people involved, have been released.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigates the officer-involved-shooting part of this incident.
