Augusta is considering finding a new mechanic for it's cars and trucks.
A private company, First Services, has been maintaining the city fleet for eight years. Its $3.6 million yearly contract is up for renewal, but some Augusta Commissioners feel it's time to shop around for a new company to get better service.
"Let's look at it for putting it out for bid. For one reason, we could see some competitive pricing, better service, and a quicker turnaround when these vehicles go in. Let's say oil change, no longer have to wait a day for an oil change," says Commissioner Wayne Guilfoyle.
City leaders take up the garage contract next week.
Commissioners will vote on keeping the company on a month-to-month contract while they go out for other proposals.
