The man who was chased after shots were fired near the Richmond County Board of Education bus depot and chased to the Savannah River has been identified.

The man is identified as 43-year-old Henry Church of the 200 block of Collins Drive, in Waynesboro.

We have learned he has an outstanding warrant for Simple Battery, from the Waynesboro Police Department, and a warrant for Probation Violation from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

WJBF News Channel 6 has learned a police chase has ended with a vehicle in the Savannah River near Augusta's Lock and Dam.

A Richmond County Sheriff's Office investigator confirms shots were fired Friday afternoon near the Richmond County Board of Education bus depot.

We are told Richmond County Board of Education Police officers responded and the suspect took off in a white Ford F150 pickup truck.

A chase ensued and the suspect drove the truck into the river at New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam Park after he ran out of roadway.

The suspect reportedly swam to the South Carolina side of the river and was picked up by Aiken County Sheriff's Office deputies.

The suspect's name has not been released, at this time, but he is described as a white male in his early 30's.

It is not known, at this time, if someone was actually hit by gunfire, but there were shots fired.

We will continue to follow this developing story and provide the latest details when they become available.

Richmond County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking into how a car got into the Savannah River near Augusta's lock and dam.

We don't have much information on this, at this point, but dispatchers confirm a car is in the river.

There is no word on injuries or how the car got there.

WJBF News Channel 6 has a crew there, and will bring you the information as soon as we can get it.
