Did Lincoln violate the Constitution during the Civil War?

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

The Columbus Public Library will set the stage for a discussion on an accusation that has been hurled across 150 years of history: Did President Abraham Lincoln violate the Constitution during the Civil War?

United States Magistrate Judge M. Stephen Hyles, a noted Civil War era buff will lead a panel discussion on the issue. He will be joined by a panel of legal experts who will examine Lincoln's use of the writ of habeas corpus, freedom of speech in the Clement Vallandigham case and the complicated legacy of slavery.

The presentation will take place on Thursday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Columbus Public Library Auditorium, 3000 Macon Road. Admission is free. No reservations required.
