Augusta, GA -

An Augusta woman has been charged after allegedly giving her teacher a tainted cupcake.

Investigators say Diane Ambrose injected the treat with a foreign substance and gave it to her teacher at Virginia College, in Augusta.

Another student alerted the victim, who was 12 weeks pregnant at the time, and doctors say the victim is now at a high risk for miscarriage.

Ambrose has been charged with two counts of Reckless Conduct.

Investigators say the substance had laxative-type qualities.

"The cupcake, contents of the cupcake, pieces of the cupcake have been sent off to the crime lab. They are going to be testing it to see exactly what kind of chemical it is," says Sergeant Michael McDaniel, with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say the victim started having lower intestinal problems about two weeks ago.
