UPDATE: Jacksonville bank robbery suspect in custody

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -

Deputies have arrested a man accused of robbing a bank in Jacksonville.

The robbery happened on September 13 at a PNC Bank on Western Boulevard.

A CrimeStoppers tip helped identify the suspect, Alonzo Antonio Murrell.

Murrell was arrested Friday by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Department with cooperation of the U.S. Marshall’s Service.

He’s in the Onslow County jail under a $100,000 bond.

Jacksonville Police have issued warrants for the arrest of the suspect accused of robbing a PNC Bank last month.

Alonzo Antonio Murrell is wanted for the September 13th robbery of PNC Bank at 2885 Western Blvd Extension.

Officers say Murrell was identified as a suspect after a Crime Stoppers tip.

The Kinston Department of Public Safety helped locate the vehicle used in the robbery and Murrell is known to frequent the area of Kinston and Lenoir County.

If you know of Murrell’s whereabouts, you should contact local law enforcement or Crime Stoppers at 910-938-3273. Callers do not have to reveal their identities.

 “The issuance of warrants in this case is the direct result of the cooperative efforts of law enforcement agencies and an involved community” stated Michael Yaniero, Director of Public Safety.

Jacksonville Police tell 9 On Your Side that PNC Bank is offering $3,000 to a reward offered for information leading to the arrest of the person that robbed their branch on Western Blvd Extension in Jacksonville last week.

Chief Mike Yaniero, Director of Public Safety said, “PNC Bank has offered up to $3,000 for information.  This is in addition to the reward offered by Crime Stoppers of Jacksonville/Onslow County of up to $2,500."

The robbery happened just before noon on September 13.

The suspect is described as a dark skinned black male, approximately 6’ 4” tall, with a thin build.  He was wearing knee length blue jean shorts, a white tee-shirt with the letters “SF” the front left chest and writing on the back.  He was also wearing a white hat and sunglasses at the time of the robbery.

He was driving a small dark, older model SUV, possibly a black Suzuki XL7 or Grand Vitare.
“We feel confident that someone has information in regard to this robbery.  We ask that anyone with information to contact us.  Information can be provided confidentially and anonymously through Crime Stoppers” stated JPD Detective Gary Manning.

Jacksonville Police are investigating a robbery at the PNC Bank on Western Boulevard.

Police were called to the bank just before noon. We're told a man wearing jean shorts and a white t-shirt with the leters "SF" or "SP" on the front robbed the bank. Police say he took an undisclosed amount of cash and left in a small dark, older model SUV.

The man was also wearing a white hat and sunglasses at the time of the robbery.
