Tampa Bay design students and Goodwill get ready for Halloween

Posted: Updated:
PINELLAS COUNTY, FL -

On special assignment dozens of Tampa Bay design students from the International School of Design and Technology were armed with $35.00 each to create the most creative and elaborate Halloween costume they could on the cheap.

Goodwill Industries-Suncoast came up with the idea to take its already hugely popular event 'Heroes, Villains and Vixens' to the next level.

The event is famous for its full moon madness benefiting Goodwill-Suncoast's programs for people with disabilities. Crowds of guests enter the historic Kapok Special Events Pavilion and are greeted by zombies, witches and other spooky visitors already roaming the premise.

Inside, there are heavy hors d'oeuvres, a display of food, drinks and a live band for dancing.  To top it all, volunteers and staff take to the runway to show off some of the most creative and outlandish costumes imaginable all pulled together from items found in Tampa Bay Goodwill sStores.

The students from the International Academy of Design and Technology were blown away by what they could find.

"They have a wide variety of things you can choose from - after you're finished with that particular project you're so inspired you are ready to create a new costume," said Kimberley Jowrie, a design student at  IADT.

Jowrie created an amazing costume and was only 60 cents over budget.
