Augusta, GA -

In recognition of National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month, The Salvation Army of Augusta seeks donations for its upcoming Auto Auction, Saturday, October 5th.

The Auto Auction funds the Salvation Army of Augusta's Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Program, located at the Center of Hope, 1384 Greene Street.

"We look at each car as a life that can be saved," said Major Tony Perez, Augusta Area Commander," we currently have 45 vehicles in the lot, but we're hoping for 65."

With 80 men going through the free, 9-month program every year, lives are changed on a regular basis.

Lives like Marty, a current program participant, who likens the program to a life preserver thrown to someone who is drowning. Marty credits the program for keeping him sober, and for giving him food, shelter and a chance to make his life better.

The Salvation Army wants your used car, truck, boat, or RV! Just call the Auto Auction Coordinator at (706)434-3178.

This year, each person who donates a vehicle will receive a free, 3-month Individual Gold Membership to The Salvation Army Kroc Center. Donations are tax-deductible and free pick up is available.

Vehicles do not have to be running to be donated.

Since 1998, The Salvation Army Auto Auction has been one of the organization's largest fundraisers of the year.

Proceeds from the auction directly support social services for those in need in the Greater Augusta Area. For more information, call (706)434-3178 or click here.
